Dison Genius now in the USA as ProMaster DuoLight

Promaster are now distributing the Dison Genius, a 250J monolight that can run on lithium batteries, AAs or AC mains power. The rebranded light is called the DuoLight 250 Hybrid.

ProMaster DuoLight

According to the company, “The new ProMaster Duolight 250 combines the power and features of a 250Ws monolight studio flash along with a variable power continuous LED light all in an ultra compact package.”

Jeff Neal, speaking on behalf of ProMaster, says,

“As digital SLR camera systems have evolved and high definition video has become an integral part of a photographer’s shooting experience, ProMaster recognized the need for a new solution that offers a combination of ultra portable size and high power flash and continuous lighting. The new Duolight 250 fits that need perfectly.”

Will Crockett, a photography teacher, enthusiastically discusses the product in the following video.

The DuoLight Hybrid has an 18W LED lamp suitable for video applications, in addition to its flash tube with a guide number of 50. The recommended retail price is US$299.95, or you can order the original version from China for around US$220.

Has anyone used one of these (i.e. original Chinese version?)

I was considering trying to get an old 2nd Quantum T2 QFlash – but these look rather tempting. So, any comments about reliability and consistency of this would be much appreciated.

I’m trying to compare the output power with a Canon Speedlight. I love the compact size and the price. I Google it but i’m not sure if this is true.

They said a Nikon/Canon speedlight (the big ones like the 580exii) are around 60Watts firing at full power. So this Promaster Duolight is four time stronger ?

      It is very true.

Hello, I made a quick power output comparison :o /
You can find the results by scrolling a bit down this thread: http://www.flickr.com/groups/strobist/discuss/72157629480270590/

If someone else has this strobe, I’d be curious to know if your impressions match.

One word, awesome. I was getting ready to buy a qflash but then the sales person showed me this. I bought two and did a shoot the next day. I mainly just used one at the lowest setting. I worked perfectly and best of all I had to do little or no post editing. Great deal.
