Westcott introduce Photo Basics X-Drop portable background kit

Need a backdrop for location shoots? Westcott have brought out the Photo Basics X-Drop Backdrop, a kit that assembles “in seconds” with a 5 foot by 7 foot seamless background. On release, it is available at an introductory price of under $100.

There are nine different colours available including plain old black, white and chroma-key green for conventional applications as well as the more frilly ‘Eminence’, ‘Saffron’ and ‘Serenity’ for the grandma’s wallpaper look. Mist, Quarry (pictured) and Slate have a muslin-style effect. Each fabric can be removed from the frame and washed, unlike collapsible disc backgrounds.

    Meh.

Looks really interesting for fast-setup and for where the space for photos isn’t all it could be.

I wonder if they will match the $99 price in the UK.

I have been in touch with Westcott about a couple of things, including the possibility of joining two of the green ones together to create a bigger studio.

(Apparently) this can be done by linking a background onto the one next to it.
They also recomend putting a weight on the stand so that it doesnt lean over.

For green screen work (I do quite a bit of Green Screen location work), the seam should key out so long as there is no actual gap.

I have also tried to contact the UK distributor about the offer, but so far no response.
