Canon USA has issued a product advisory warning customers about the existence of “counterfeit” Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT flashes being sold online. According to the post, it can often be hard to distinguish the counterfeit products from the real thing, but the former will often be limited in features, performance and longevity.

“It has also been confirmed that the radio transmission wireless shooting function incorporated into genuine Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT flashes is not incorporated into the counterfeit product,” the company said.

The manufacturer is not talking about third-party “clones” and alternative products (such as the Yongnuo YN600EX-RT or Shanny SN600C-RT) but rather those unscrupulous companies that cross the line, putting a Canon badge on a fake flash and trying to pass it off as the genuine article.
