Going on location? One Kickstarter project reckons it can give you “comfort, greater stability, and increased versatility” for photography and cinematography.
The Dixie Grip or “speed grip” is a multi-purpose hotshoe bracket that works as a handle mount, umbrella swivel and floor stand for speedlights. In the moving pictures world it’ll also hold up LED lamps, microphones and other video accessories.
In their pitch video (embedded below) the creators extol the Dixie Grip’s virtues as an more “nimble” alternative to great big heavy, expensive studio lights and stands. Readers of this site will be aware this is taking liberties somewhat: affordable speedlights and lightweight accessories have been readily available for a while now. Still, the Dixie Grip does look better than many brackets out there as it combines umbrella support, a light stand socket and rotating hotshoe (well, actually a coldshoe) all in one accessory.
Donating $40 or more to the project will net you an ‘Early Bird’ Dixie Grip, so long as the Arizona-based inventors raise $60,000 by the end of July. The project deadline is 29th July 2014. Click here to visit the campaign page.
