On January 20, Phottix released a firmware update for their Nikon and Canon Mitros speedlites. The new firmware version for Nikon is 3.20 and Canon’s is 1.02B5. As well as various bug fixes, the new firmware also brings new features, such as faster flash power adjustments (for Canon) and optimised overheating protection (for both).
NB: these are not for the Mitros+, which includes a built-in radio transceiver.
The following information is from Phottix’s blog:
Nikon Updates:
- Re-optimizes the overheating protection function of the flash and increases the number of flashes before the overheating protection function engages.
- Fine-tunes flash brightness/output levels.
Canon Updates:
- Added function: Faster adjustments. Pressing and holding the arrow adjustment buttons will continuously make plus or minus adjustments – no need to press the button again and again. Single button presses will adjust levels by 1/3rd stop increments. Note: functions not available when adjusting zoom settings.
- Re-optimizes the overheating protection function of the flash and increases the number of flashes before the overheating protection function engages.
- Improves the situation in that a Mitros, as the slave unit, may be out of sync when working with Canon G1X and 600EX as the master unit.
- Modifies settings that may have caused the flash to default to using full-frame camera settings when Factory Default Settings are restored.
- Improves the situation in that Multi Mode function will not work when using a Canon 10D.
- Modifies the setting that the number of flashes in Multi mode will change when adjusting the manual output level.
- Improved the overexposure problem when using with Canon EOS M and Odin.
- Optimization of flash power levels.
Both PC and Mac installers are available to install the updates and can be downloaded from the Phottix Journal here.
All I can say is: Phottix is supporting the Canon 10D? Wow! That’s a 10-year old camera! Keep up the great work Phottix!
