General Electric is to sell a sub-$15 household light bulb that you can control from a smartphone. The Link bulb will be available later this year from American DIY stores and have remote adjustment from a ‘Wink’ smartphone app.
One GE manager calls it “a fundamental lifestyle shift for consumers and the way theyâ€™ve lit their homes for more than 100 years”. That may or may not be the case, but at any rate it’s probably got more chance than Philips’ Â£50-per-bulb Hue effort, even if that one does also change colour.
