
General Electric is to sell a sub-$15 household light bulb that you can control from a smartphone. The Link bulb will be available later this year from American DIY stores and have remote adjustment from a ‘Wink’ smartphone app.
One GE manager calls it “a fundamental lifestyle shift for consumers and the way they’ve lit their homes for more than 100 years”. That may or may not be the case, but at any rate it’s probably got more chance than Philips’ £50-per-bulb Hue effort, even if that one does also change colour.
