Hensel Grand Mini: a ‘mobile’ parabolic softbox

The Hensel Grand Mini is an 85cm parabolic softbox that folds like an umbrella, allowing quick setup and tear-down for location photographers.

German lighting manufacturer Hensel has introduced a new model of Grand softbox designed for location photographers. Unlike a traditional softbox, and previous editions in the Hensel Grand line, the oxymoronically-named Grand Mini opens like an umbrella in seconds.

With an 85cm diameter, the Hensel Grand Mini is the company’s smallest 16-sided softbox after the Grand 90, and the first that doesn’t require a time-consuming assembly process of threading rods through fabric.

“Users who change location several times per day will love this easy setup,” said Hensel in a press release.

“Besides saving a significant amount of time, there is another advantage. The Grand Mini 85 forms one single unit made up of back part, mechanical parts, and the cover. You will never lose individual parts again,” they added.

Otherwise, the Grand Mini inherits other features and characteristics of the Grand series: a parabolic shape for “even but brilliant lighting”, adjustable front and inner diffuser panels, “optimum construction” and “very good colour rendering”, so say Hensel. Optional accessories include a deflector, bounce disc and fabric honeycomb grid.
