Illuminati light meters can now measure flash duration, HSS

New app update allows Illuminati meters to measure flash duration, high-speed sync flashes and to match one light to the colour of another.

Illuminati IM150

Illuminati Instruments has announced an update to its iOS and Android apps. The new version adds the capability of metering high-speed sync (HSS) flash and of measuring flash duration to the company’s IM150 wireless light meters.

Other improvements include a simplified screen showing the correlated colour temperature and tint of measured light sources. Another dashboard helps with white-balancing monitors or matching one light to match the colour of another. This last feature would be a handy for users of RGB video lights, hoping to set their output to match the ambient conditions accurately.

With these added features, the smartphone-controlled exposure meters may give the likes of Sekonic a run for their money. The colour features are available in both the Illuminati IM100 and IM150 models, but the HSS metering is only for the IM150.

The latest version of the app for iOS is 1.0.66 and for Android is version 1.0.49. Both are free to download. The Illuminati Instruments IM150 is available now for $399 from Adorama and B&H Photo. Visit the manufacturer’s web site for more information.
