German manufacturer Metz has switched its Mecablitz 44 AF-1 and 52 AF-1 flashguns to Sony’s new hotshoe interface.

The move switches the flash feet from the industry non-standard Minolta iISO or “Auto-lock Accessory Shoe” to the more-but-still-not-quite-standard “Multi Interface Shoe” that features on Sony’s latest Alpha-series digital cameras. Until now, you needed a hotshoe adapter to use Metz flashes with new Sony cameras. Now you’ll just need one to use them with older cameras.
