Metz, the German manufacturer of Mecablitz and Mecastudio flash units, has filed for insolvency. The firm has been making televisions and other electronics for over 70 years but announced today that it is going into administration.
According to Reuters, up to 600 jobs are at risk, but production and customer services will “continue for the time being”. The company’s official web site at www.metz.de remains up and running with no announcement relating to the move.
Metz is one of the leading third-party manufacturers of flashes outside South-East Asia, and recently introduced several touchscreen-enabled lights including the flagship Mecablitz 64 AF-1.
