Multiblitz create Probeau XL and Octa 100 lightformers

Multiblitz have developed two new lighting accessories - an octagonal softbox and a large beauty dish - for V and P mount studio lamps.

Multiblitz XL Beauty Reflektor

Multiblitz of Germany have developed two new lighting accessories – an octagonal softbox and a large beauty dish – for V and P mount studio lamps.

The recently-announced Beauty Dish XL Probeau (German: Beauty Reflektor XL) has a 70cm diameter that complements the smaller, existing 42cm beauty dish in Multiblitz’s line-up. The modifier is described as “3-in-1” because a diffuser sock (soft screen) and honeycomb grid are included with every reflector, allowing photographers to widen or tighten the spread of light as needed.

The interior of the beauty dish is painted white, providing a softer, less “specular” look than might otherwise be created by a silver light former. The reflector comes in versions for Multiblitz V and P bayonets. The weight is listed as 2.5 kilograms.

The second new product offering is a one-metre softbox, the Multiblitz Octa 100. It is octagonal, 100cm wide and 50cm deep with inner and outer diffuser panels. A fabric grid is supplied with each Octa, helping one to contain spill light.

Though listed available for Multiblitz P and V bayonets, it might also be possible to change the speed ring adapter in order to fit the Octa 100 on other kinds of studio heads. This is not specified in the product description, so check before you order.

Where to buy

The Multiblitz Octa 100 has a recommended retail price of €299. The 3-in-1 Beauty Dish Probeau XL costs €422.

You can buy them direct or look up other German resellers. For international distributors, visit the English language web site. In America, Multiblitz products are distributed by Multiblitz USA, where the 70cm beauty dish and 100cm Octa are described as “27-inch” and “3-foot”, respectively. The US firm has not yet announced dollar pricing.
