Clacton on Sea, Essex: British manufacturer Bowens have launched Streamlites, their latest range of continuous lighting. The new Streamlite 330 and 530 are audaciously described as “the next best thing to the sun”, putting out daylight-balanced light from three and five E27 30 Watt lamps respectively.
Each unit features a removable white reflector and diffusion sock (no S-mount). The 530 model allows you to individually switch each of the five lamps on and off via a control panel on the back, while the 330 is fixed at 90W (claimed 330W tungsten equivalent).
The Streamlite 330 can be bought as part of a two head light tent kit, emphasising their usefulness in table-top applications such as food and product photography. Their low running temperature (compared to tungsten lights) and simple controls means they’re less likely to melt your ice cream while photographing it! Of course as a continuous light, the Streamlites are equally suited for video.
