Here comes a new challenger. A Dutch advertising agency has announced the Shapemount, a third-party mounting solution for Profoto light shapers on hotshoe flashes.

Profoto recently launched their OCF Adapter, a speedlight bracket for mounting OCF and RFi light shapers on Profoto A1, A1X and A10 flashes. The steep $299 price tag attracted a fair amount of criticism.

Imagestudio Eyecatcher has published a teaser page for the Shapemount, an alternative with a slightly more versatile design, as the flash is held horizontally on an L-bracket and can slide back and forth within the modifier for different lighting effects. The movable mount means you can use any height speedlight — including Canon or Nikon ones, if you wanted to use non-Profoto flashes with Profoto-fit light modifiers.

A disadvantage of this design is that the flash controls are less accessible, though this should be less of a concern for modern lights with built-in wireless remote control.

The Shapemount isn’t available yet; a Kickstarter campaign is set to launch next month with early bird prices between €99 and €119. Visit shapemount.com for further information.
