The Korean brand SMDV has released a new version of their parabolic softbox. This new softbox, called the SPEEDBOX-65, features some small improvements over the old 65cm dodecagonal version. Old metal rods that were used for the construction of the softbox has been replaced by steel rods, greatly improving the durability of the item.
Besides the new rods SMDV has also changed some other things to improve durability. Similar to smaller SMDV softboxes, the front diffuser is now permanently sewn into place, making the softbox even easier to set up. The inner diffuser can be removed through the back when the softbox is disassembled. For the lining, a new fabric is used which reduces the weight of the softbox. The total weight is 800 grams including the speedlight tilt bracket.
This new steel-ribbed version of the SPEEDBOX-65 is directly available through Legio Aerium on Amazon starting at $185.95. Three kits are available, one with speedlight bracket, one for Bowens mount and one for Godox Witstro or Quantum Qflash.
