Need a soft light that works out of the box? Falcon Eyes have launched a range of bi-colour LED lamps called Sophiez, offering “extremely soft light”.
Unlike more conventional matrix LED panels, you can’t see all the individual diodes on a Sophiez lamp — it is all one smooth, continuous light surface. If using them for portraiture or filming people, no additional diffusers or softboxes are necessary.
Colour rendering index (CRI) is given as 95.
There are a range of different models, in square or round shapes and varying sizes. All can be powered from the mains or via NP-F lithium batteries. The number in the model name indicates the power draw, so the SO-148TDX draws 148 watts, while the SO-40TD draws 40 watts. All of them have standard light stand mounts and tilt brackets.
Colour is adjustable from 3000K to 5600K and you can control everything from the touchscreen on the rear of the device. What’s more, different Sophiez panels will talk to each other, so you can control all your panels from the back of just one lamp.
European distributor Benèl BV now sells the Falcon Eyes Sophiez panels, starting at €279 for the SO-40TD, rising to €1099 for the new SO-148TDX. Visit the Benèl online store for more information.
