You can now use Light and Motion's photography LEDs with large Profoto and Bowens-fit softboxes.

Light and Motion Stella Pro CLx Bowens and Profoto adapters

Light and Motion, the US manufacturer of LED lights for photography—and cycling—has announced new mounting adapters for their Stella Pro CL series of photo and video lights, adding compatibility for Profoto and Bowens S-mount accessories.

For the uninitiated: the Stella Pro series are battery-powered continuous lamps designed for photography and video lighting. They are weatherproof, and some models have switchable heads (from daylight to tungsten). Light and Motion pitches them as replacements for studio flashes, due to their high output with no recycling times.

Stella Pro CL and CLX lights have an Elinchrom-style bayonet and come with a Profoto ring adapter, allowing you to mount various softboxes and other modifiers. But when using these mounting points, the weight of the accessory is entirely supported by the light—potentially putting strain on the head and at risk of tipping, if using particularly heavy light-shaping tools.

With the new brackets, the modifier is supported by your light stand and the Stella Pro light effectively hangs off the back, making the whole setup more stable and allowing the use of much heavier accessories. It also means you can remove the lamp without having to tear down the softbox. It is a bit like how the Godox S2 works.

Light and Motion’s Stella Pro CLx Bowens adapter and Stella Pro CLx Profoto adapters are available now for $99.99 each. Visit the company’s web site for more information.
