Strahlen is a new San Diego, California-based company that is currently in prototype with their first product: the ST-100 LED Light. Co-founder & CEO Andy Waplinger, a freelance filmmaker and photographer, decided to build his own lighting system as there was nothing on the market he was happy with. Now that’s a Californian!
Since the ST-100’s crowd-funding campaign launch, the firm has made some big improvements to the design. Now the Strahlen Light is shorter (by about 4 inches) and lighter (by 2 lbs), making it, according to the manufacturer, “now the lightest and smallest unit in its class”.
We love LED for its power output while being energy conserving. Waplinger’s company is currently producing three models: daylight, tungsten and dual temperature, all with a standardized Bowens S-type accessory mount. The unit puts out the equivalent of a 500W halogen light while having an estimated lifespan of 50,000 hours.
