Westcott LunaGrip quickly pairs speedlights and reflectors

The Westcott LunaGrip holds a 20–42" reflector or diffuser in front of your flash, turning it into a large light source.

Westcott LunaGrip

Westcott has introduced an unusual new lighting accessory called the LunaGrip. Simply put, LunaGrip creates a simple large light source by holding a pop-up reflector in front of your flashgun. The system comprises a speedlight bracket, handle mount and three flexible arms.

Using a reflector disc you can create a large bounced light source, while a diffusion panel will make a rudimentary softbox. Designed by a photographer called Kevin Kubota, the LunaGrip can support discs from 20 to 42 inches in diameter. You can either add your own reflector or buy a LunaGrip Kit, which includes a 40-inch one-stop diffusion disc.

It is not entirely clear what the benefits are of using a LunaGrip instead of a more conventional softbox or lighting umbrella — both of which will be better at controlling spill light.

The Westcott LunaGrip is available to order from B&H Photo for $89.90. The LunaGrip Kit is priced $119.90. For more information, visit the manufacturer’s product page.
